Twisted Fate

Part 6

Author’s Note I think I’m getting it going pretty well. Tomorrow is the month of May I hope y’all had as good of a month of April as possible!

“What are we going to do?” Why do I feel suddenly tired? Maybe It’s just from how much I have been sleeping. I moved us here maybe I can move us back.
“Don’t even think about it, Rita.” Al interrupts my thoughts. “Remember what ‘adult’ Robert said?”
“Wait… adult Robert?” Randy gives me a look “What are you talking about?”
“When I was asleep I wasn’t just asleep. My mind traveled further into the future. I spoke with someone who said he was Robert. I’m not sure if he was telling the truth because he spoke oddly. He told me that when I woke up I tried to use my new powers too soon and wore myself out.”
“It could be me, couldn’t it? They saved you.” Robert speaks quietly. “Sissy my healing powers are strong now won’t they just get stronger as I get older?”
“Yeah and you said he spoke weirdly what do you mean?” I look towards Rain, she’s growing up so much and I don’t often take the time to notice, she’s only twelve though.
“He wasn’t using contractions. He also was scaring me a bit, he said that he lost me when he was young. I don’t know if I believe him.” Robert was still looking at me expectantly. “Yes, Robert I expect that your powers will grow into something we don’t expect. It’s just weird how is talking to me in my mind related to your ability to heal?”
“Maybe it has something to do with mental illness?” Randy speaks up after thinking for a while. “Maybe his powers expand to the illnesses you can’t see as well as the ones you can. That would explain why he could speak to you while you were unconscious”
“That would make sense! Rita maybe your power is you can move things through space or time not necessarily both!” Al was bouncing up and down, “That’s why you were able to travel through time without your body.”
“That doesn’t explain how she figured out how to move us during those tornadoes,” Danny spoke up, always concerned about the development of new powers, wary of the registry. “We probably shouldn’t stick around here since it has been so long since we’ve been seen and we haven’t aged a day.”
“I just wanted to protect y’all,” I say at the same time that Rain asks,
“You mean leave our home? What about the pets?” Rain is always worried about her cats. “What about all of our things?”
“Let’s sleep on it Danny, Please?” I try to hold back the weariness I still feel. “I’m still not feeling that great.”
“I’m not sure we have a choice. If that neighbor told anyone they saw us we will be hunted by the registry. Who knows how much worse they have gotten in the last six years.” I know Danny is right but it doesn’t make me feel any better.
“Are any of the horses still on property? I might be able to ride. We need to check the condition the tack is in. Did I move just the basement or our whole property? Did the neighbor say?”
“That’s smart we should be able to cover more ground if we ride. I’ll go find us some horses. Hopefully, they’ll listen to me.” Randy heads toward the door. “I from the state of everything in the kitchen expiration wise I’d say just the basement.”
“I’ll go with you and check the tack, maybe we could hook up the wagon if it’s not in too much disrepair.” Danny stands up, “I always thought grandpa was crazy for keeping that thing but now, with the car all rusted, I’ll be glad we have it now if it’s usable.”
“If we get the wagon can we take the cats with us.” Rain speaks up, ”Puppy will stay with us, we’ve got him trained well.”
“Yes if Danny can get the wagon hooked up to the horses we can take the cats. We can go to grandpa’s hunting cabin. Not very many people know about it. Al, let’s get all the provisions we can packed up. Grandpa used his power on that wagon it should be good still.”
“Great idea! Grandpa’s cabin should be perfect. He used his woodworking powers on that too right?”
“Yep, Rain why don’t you help us. Make a list of what we have, we’ll have to ration everything a bit.”
We all set to work. Robert is still silent and holds on to me. He is such a pensive eight-year-old. He’ll probably be smarter than us all. We take what food we have and pack it into the wagon. “Rain and Robert go get our school stuff. We’re going to want to keep up with our work.”
They groan as they go upstairs. “I’ll help them.” Al follows.
I turn towards my twin and think about everything we’ve been through together and hope that we are ready for what is to come.
